SriValli G. Vishwa garu - We have long forgotten chants about food. We waste just about everything in this so-called poor country of ours. Food, money, time, petrol, ... We pass bills in legislatures - only for pleasing electorate. Satyagraha then. to Jala yajnam, Odarpu, Atmagauravam, Vibhajana, Samaik(h)yata, Social justice, are all empty words. The only chant we remember is Dhana Mulam Idam Jagat. Banned drugs, banned pesticides, drug trials, crimes on women, vulgarity in films and TV you name it, we have.
We seem to have no direction and we have forgotten what is meant by conscience. We destroyed traditions in a tradition bound society and we do not understand what is meant by a law-abiding society.

The Lord of Universe is beyond the three qualities of sattva, rajas and tamas. With the quality of sattva, he is in the heart cavity of all as a witness to the karma of every jiva. As rajas, he is the in-dweller of a jiva as antaryami propelling his actions. As tamas, he represents the body-consciousness and ego of a jiva. The icons of Jagannatha Puri of Balarama, Sri Krishna and Subhadra represent this concept. As Balarama with his eyes looking within, he represents the silent observer (witness or saakshi, neutral principle). With eyes fully open to the world and shining as blue sapphire (Ujjvala Nila Mani ) Sri Krishna directs the jiva as antaryami (active principle). Their sister Subhadra represents the mother-nature component of Jagat (prakrti) Together these three represent the complete nature of the Lord (Jagannatha).
