Castes and religions exist in our country

Renuka Narayan Gopinath - English version - Castes and religions exist in our country. They will continue to exist. Why make fuss about them? These classifications existed from thousands of years. They do not disappear, if you say an incantation like “Haam phat.” What is wrong with these concepts? Why should we say that we want a caste-free, religion free society? Every label unites a group of like-minded persons. What is the difference between a vaidika-brahmin group and, say, Institution of Engineers? The problem is that the Indian Politics made these into political parameters and vote-banks. Treat caste and religions as identity labels inherited by birth. It does not mean these are eternal. Most Christians in India are first, second or third generation converts. Most Muslims in India are also descendent of Hindus or converts may be several generations ago. Evangelist Bro. Anil Kumar proudly announces his Brahmin background in his web site. See this sample: “The founder and chairman of AWE, Bro. Anil Kumar was an orthodox Brahmin by birth. However the passion that he has developed towards the living God has made him the renowned Evangelist, marking a turning point in his life which made a phenomenal growth as an international Evangelist.” The words Brahmin Christian, Reddy Christian, Dalit (a political label encompassing many SCs ) Christian are all political terms. At least I know one Christian-Brahmin and a true Brahmin – David Frawley alias Pandit Vamadeva Sastry, a scholar of Rigveda. There are inter-caste, inter-religion, international marriages from long times. If some want to preserve their caste and religious identities, let them. How can anybody object? The true nature of the human species is classification. If there is no caste, there will certainly be class or race as in the USA.
