Has Indian Independence struggle yielded any positive results?

In retrospect, I am not sure. It is between whom? Is it between the British and Indians? Why? British are certainly the most benevolent and the more civilized among our foreign rulers. The independence struggle degraded into struggle between Indians; between Hindus and Muslims. They would have left anyway, a little later. What was achieved? Partitioned India. Independence was supposed to have been obtained through non-violence. Result was a bloody partition. India was unhappy because it is has lost a vast area, historically, culturally and religiously important in our history. Pakistan was not happy as it felt it had got a moth eaten Pakistan. Even what it got, it could not keep even for 25 years with the Punjabi and the Bengali refusing to see eye to eye with each other. If religion initially united them language divided them very soon. Even after 66 years after 1947 all the three countries could not prove that they could effectively govern themselves. We are slightly richer now, but hopelessly backward along many dimensions. We created three mutual enemies in the place of a united nation under foreign rule. My own uncle happily worked in Lahore and Rangoon in early 1930s. Premature independence is the root cause of our troubles. Life was not that bad then.
